IT'S FOLEY TIME!
The article says to capture the audio with the microphone close to the subject but far away enough to hear the whole sound, think about it as a magnifying glass rather than a microscope. Keep ambient noise to a minimum and record the same object several times so that you have more than one take to work with. And in editing if you still didn't quite get the sound you needed or the way you wanted it to sound try messing with the EQ and special add on effects that come with the audio editing program. This is all important to video production because sound effects are as important as the video itself.
